Oval Gem Alexandrite

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Totally natural, beautiful, clean and superbly well cut, this oval cut gem Alexandrite exhibits excellent color change and brilliance. It has a great face up for its weight, looking much larger than expected, an important value added when dealing in such rare stones.

3.53 ct Alexandrite oval

Item # 2094 10.65 x7.96 x4.90 mm – Oval – 3.53 ct – GIA Cert

Often cutters will hide a lot of weight in bulged pavilions, since the loss of even a few points really affects the final asking price of a stone. Larger fine Alexandrites are super rare and a true investment whether mounted and worn for all to admire, or securely put away in a collectors vault.

International Buyers Buying at Old Prices in the U.S.

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

As direct importers we experience the highs and lows of supply and demand of the gem market ahead of retailers. All indicators point to the fact that at present there is a healthy and strong demand for gems, especially finer gems, in the world market. Growing economies with an expanding middle class such as India, China and Russia, have diminished the role the U.S. used to play in setting prices internationally. That, along with a weaker dollar has really changed the playing field for the American buyer over the past few years.

We experienced strong signs of this, this past Tucson show when we saw a high number of overseas buyers going from booth to booth buying up gems that were still marked at below world market prices. With sluggish sales over the last few years, there was still plenty of old inventory in many of the U.S. dealer’s booths. U.S. buyers, not having bought in a few years, were not current on prices in general and not taking advantage of these opportunities. It has been only after selling and wishing to replace, that many U.S. dealers have been shocked with the huge increases of price at the source level. I have a feeling we will have a similar experience this JCK and then eventually as all dealers are forced to replace their goods, the real world prices of gems will hit the U.S. market.

So, I think this is a good window in time to stock up on gems still around in the U.S., that will cost up to twice as much to replace once sold.

Come and visit us to find out the good deals you can walk away with.

Stock up on Sapphires

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Reinforced by the Royal Wedding this spring, we are all aware, that after diamonds, the choice of a gem in a wedding ring is Sapphire. Obviously most people think of the color blue first, but increasingly so, savvy young couples decide to express their uniqueness by choosing from the amazing range of fancy color sapphires such as yellow, pink, peach, orange, lilac, lavender….

Wherever your clients preferences may fall, be sure to have a few nice sapphires to present to the next in love couple who walk in your store, wishing to create their own royal experience.

Presenting the sapphires as loose gems to choose from has the added benefit of allowing the couple to really make it their own by custom designing the whole piece, enhancing the individuality of the whole experience. Also as the jeweler, you won’t have your capital tied up in mountings and the volatile gold market. Also this allows for more flexibility of getting in other sapphires to choose from, once your customer has reference stones to work from.

We have a great selection of sapphires and a great website with a search option which will help you immensely in this next step of closing a sale.

So come and inventory a few of these beauties to tempt and tantalize your discriminating savvy brides to be seeking the unique.

JCK Las Vegas 2011 – Gem 2000

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

The biggest show of the year, the JCK Gem and Jewelry Show, is just a few weeks away. Veteran buyers and first timers alike are equally in for all things new and changed this JCK, 2011. The new venue for this show, Mandalay Bay, promises an improved and updated show experience for all of us. New routines and strategies will have to be adapted by exhibitors and buyers alike to maximize the efficiency of the use of our time and energy, these two being elements we run short of often at these larger events.
I recommend a quick review of floor plans, knowing ahead where all of your targeted destinations are located, and the order in which you visit them.
AGTA has its own ballroom spaces at the Mandalay Bay Beach Level, and actually offers the buyers two extra buying days. AGTA opens one day prior to the main show and closes one day after the main show, allowing for more focused buying time for jewelers, manufacturers and designers attending the JCK Show from all over the world.
Presently, we have a great selection of quality fine single stones in a large variety of gems, so come and visit us early. To help you plan your time and for us to give you our undivided attention, you can call and set up an appointment with us.  1-800-545-9555 We look forward to seeing you at our booth
